Need help determining the proper size door for your doorway. First thing you'll want to do is determine whether your doorway will be framed out with trim around the edges of the opening, or if it's a standard doorway without any trim or moulding around the doorway.
We typically recommend having the door be just big enough to completely overlap the trim around the doorway when the door is in the closed position, so you'll want to measure from outside edge to outside edge of the trim on both sides of the doorway and add 1 to determine the ideal width of your door. Next you'll want to measure from the floor to the top edge of the trim on top of the doorway. The height of your door should be at least equal to that measurement, or you can add 1/2" or 1". We typically recommend a 2" overlap on both sides of your doorway when the door is in the closed position and a 1/2" to 1-1/2 overlap on the top of your doorway when the door is in the closed position. So to determine ideal width, measure the width of your doorway, side to side, and add 4.To determine ideal height, measure from the floor to the top of your opening, and add 1/2" - 1".
